Healing-Centered Care
Move from “what’s wrong” to “what’s strong”
Helping ourselves and others flourish. For nurses and healthcare professionals, and anyone in a helping profession — caregivers, teachers, first responders, and more.
Written by Donn Kropp, MS, RN. Presented by Bobby Milhouse and Amanda Casserilla.
The real opening of lesson one. Not a trailer — watch it before you decide.
“What’s strong with you?”
Most of us were trained to look for the problem: the diagnosis, the deficit, the thing to fix. It matters. But people are more than what hurt them, and so are you. Healing-centered care starts from what is already strong and builds from there.
That is the shift this course teaches. It builds on trauma-informed care and goes a step further, toward identity, agency, relationships, meaning, and aspirations — for the people you serve, and for you.
What you'll be able to do
Five principles, in about four hours of video — practical tools, not theory to memorize.
Start with what’s strong.
Our brains are wired to notice what is going wrong. You’ll learn why, and how to find and use the strengths that are already there — in yourself and in the people you serve.
- How trauma and harmful environments shape us
- Negativity bias, and how to work with it
- The 24 character strengths and six virtues
- How to spot your own signature strengths
Who we are, what we can do, and who we do it with.
Three of the five principles are about identity, agency, and relationships. Each one comes with tools you can use the same day.
- The five dimensions of identity, and how belonging heals
- Personal, relational, and collective agency
- SMART goals, hope, and a self-efficacy check
- Transformational relationships and courageous conversations
A life that means something, and a future worth wanting.
The last two principles look forward: what makes life meaningful, and how to dream past the barriers that hold people back.
- What makes life feel meaningful, and what gets in the way
- The Meaning in Life Questionnaire
- Aspirations versus goals, and why the difference matters
- Open language, strategic questions, and vision boards

Meet the author
Donn Kropp, MS, RN · 20+ years in trauma nursing, veteran mental health care & healthcare analytics
Donn is a registered nurse whose 20+ year career reads like three jobs in one: working trauma bays through cardiac arrests and other life-or-death moments, coordinating care for veterans through some of the hardest chapters of their lives, and turning hospital data into the kind of insight that actually changes how care gets delivered. He holds a Master’s in Healthcare Leadership from the University of California, Davis, and is an award-winning educator and instructional designer.
He built his first courses for fellow nurses back in 2009 — then found that everyday people connected with the material even more strongly, because it speaks to the heart before the head. That discovery became FillUpLearn.
On screen, the course is presented by Bobby Milhouse and Amanda Casserilla, who guide you through every lesson.
